Who is Xylon van Eyck?

When I was a kid I dreamt of living the life I'm living today. My passions were radio and cycling. Every afternoon I would cycle for hours on an old donated bicycle in second-hand cycling kit, and on the weekends I would hang out at the community radio station and bug them to put me on air. To be in a situation where I can combine my passion for media and cycling is something I am thankful for every day.

I don't take myself seriously but I do take my work seriously. I love having the freedom to work from where I want to. I've been privileged to work with some of the biggest broadcasters in South Africa and to work with some big names in international cycling. One of my best days as a press officer was when Louis Meintjes  came second at the World Champs in Florence, Italy.

In early 2012, I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. This is a type of blood cancer. It really threw me as I'd always been fit and healthy. Over the last two years I've gone through a bone marrow transplant and 16 chemo's. Cancer has taught me to value every day and pursue my dreams.

I joined Team MTN-Qhubeka as the press officer towards the end of 2012. This was a natural progression after being a presenter on the world's largest sports channel, SuperSport and writing for cycling website, VeloNation. While at Team MTN-Qhubeka I oversaw the successful transition from a domestic South African team to an international brand in world cycling. I will never forget the day Gerald Ciolek won Milan SanRemo. I was sitting at home recovering from a chemo session when I saw him cross the line. It was the best medicine I could have received.

In January 2014, I decided to take some time-off to travel and relax after two gruelling years of cancer treatment. On my return from spending time in Asia, Europe and South Africa I decided to branch out on my own and start a PR company focusing on cycling. Since then I've been working with CORSO Sports and some of their riders, such as Ted King, Laurens Ten Dam, Gerald Ciolek and Andre Cardoso.

5 things I like:
  • Travelling
  • My wife
  • Cycling (obviously)
  • Cake and tea
  • Kruger National Park

These are some of the services I offer:

Nobody likes someone who talks about themselves all the time so I thought I'd let a few other people say nice things about me for a change:
